Client Testimonials

Most of my clients aren’t worried about winning obedience competitions – they just want to learn to build a better relationship with their dog. I’m always glad to see how happy everybody is – the owners AND the dogs – when they learn they can get the results that they want without punishing your dog. Who’s not just a dog, either. They are a member of your family.

Do you want someone that listens to you and makes you feel confident? If yes, then hire John!

John is an incredible dog trainer. We learned about his business from a friend at the dog park. Our sweet boy Napoleon all of a sudden showed aggression/anxiety behaviors. My partner and I knew we needed help…. and fast. I called what felt like a million places and they were unable to help with Napoleon’s issues or used training methods I didn’t approve of. John was a godsend. When he says he won’t judge, he really means it! He offered immediate support through his 15 min free phone call. I purchased a package and we began our work together. I updated him every couple of days. Honestly, it was so nice to have someone in our life that understood us.

When we rescued our next dog, we knew we had to call John. He was always fast to reply to emails and ran an ethical business. His prices are very fair compared to other companies. What I really appreciated about John was that it never felt like he was in this for the business of making money, but rather he wanted to help people become confident dog parents. I have recommended him to several friends and I hope anyone reading this also selects him to help you and your dog.

John is not only good in his work but also a great listener and human being!

Last week we had a video call with John. He made space and time for us for a different rate because with medical bills its hard to find a good trainer we can afford. We had a great session. With a lot of insight but also a lot of motivation. He came with a lot of solutions and ideas but listens also. I would 100% recommend John, as face to face session but online too! (also follow him on Instagram!)

Compassionate trainer who is patient, knowledgeable, observant and open to ideas

I have been working with John for a few years with my 2 dogs. Consistent and reliable training with him allowed me to achieve dependable results with my dogs. He always encourages me to try new methods/strategies while respecting my dogs’ confidence and comfort level, and mine. Recently, I’ve had to go overseas and because of the trust he’s built with us, I was able to enjoy my time away knowing that he would care for my dogs and provide the appropriate enrichment when he visited them. Building and reinforcing desirable behaviors take time and effort, there are no short cuts or overnight miracles. John has the compassion, knowledge and flexibility to help you achieve the best relationship with your dog. And his wife is a very helpful assistant in needed scenarios, thanks J!

John was so wonderful with our dog Freya!

My partner and I are both new dog parents, so his expertise was essential in us feeling comfortable caring for her and making her feel relaxed at home. John was able to give us a lot of tools and resources that we used to help Freya adjust in her new environment, and with her two new cat siblings. He was always so attentive to our needs and repsonsive whenever we had questions or concerns. He was also able to provide a number of online/easily accessible resources for extra knowledge which was extremely helpful. Additionally, he was very good at helping us as new dog parents to reshape the way we think about dogs’ behavior and how we can help them to cope with their emotions and communication with humans. What I love about this method of training is that it has made an enormous change in our comfortability training Freya moving foward and with new challenges that we may face. I cannot recommend him enough!

Practice makes progress!

We felt like we were at the end of our rope with Radar and his reactivity. We were beginning to lose hope and were directed to John for help and we are SO THANKFUL. The three of us have learned so much from John. Most importantly we learned patience, practice, and how to read and appropriately react to Radars signals. Radar is people reactive and leash reactive to dogs and strangers. He’d be snarling, up on hind legs, barking, and generally aggressive and fearful. Working with John we learned so many tips and tricks for how to work with this and by the last lesson radar was completely comfortable with John. Our walks have improved tremendously and we are all much more confident now.
John is patient, thoughtful, and takes the time to teach us just as much as we are teaching our buddy.

Canela and Trufflez’ favorite teacher!

As someone who has worked in education for nearly two decades, it was deeply important for me to work with a trainer whose approach aligned with mine. Specifically, I wanted a trainer who didn’t subscribe to the “alpha” default and methods of punishment and control that harm animals for the comfort and convenience of human desires. John fully embodies and enacts an approach to training that centers the well-being and dignity of all animals. My two rescues couldn’t be more different in their personalities and needs: Canela is an 8lb chihuahua who came to me with 3+ years of trauma and abuse and Trufflez was a street dog who was rescued at 6-7th months old. In general, Canela is terrified of men and her default trauma response is to fight. Trufflez is full of endless curiosity, joy, and wonder – and has zero sense of boundaries and space. John instantly met both Canela and Trufflez exactly where they were and continues to differentiate his lessons and strategies for both the pups and for ME! John truly taps into the needs of every dog and their humans, and helps me to better understand the root causes and reasons driving certain behaviors and habits and provides detailed notes after every lesson with follow-ups and homework for me, Canela and Trufflez to practice. Importantly, both Canela and Trufflez adore and TRUST their favorite teacher; they sing and dance when he arrives, they respond incredibly well and quickly to his approach, and they feel safe and seen in his presence. I have learned so much more about Canela and Trufflez (and myself!) through each and every one of our sessions and for the ways our sessions have also helped to strengthen my understanding and my relationships with both Canela and Trufflez. If you are looking to work with a trainer who genuinely loves dogs, and celebrates the wide-ranging ways that doggies show up in our worlds, then John is 150% the trainer you’ve been looking for. He takes the time to observe and differentiate lessons for both the doggies AND their humans; and develops plans rooted in positive affirmations and reminders rather than punitive measures. Canela, Trufflez, and I are deeply grateful for Mr. John!
